Dr Michael Stokes is a Cardiologist with interests in heart failure, cardiac imaging, pulmonary hypertension, valvular heart disease, peri-operative cardiac care and general cardiology.
Michael completed his medical degree at the University of Adelaide in 2006 and then undertook his basic physician training and advanced cardiology training at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne.
Michael then completed a fellowship in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne in 2014. During this role, he acquired experience in the management of a broad range of patients with advanced heart failure, which included selection and management of patients undergoing cardiac transplantation and/or requiring left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). He also acquired valuable experience in management of acute presentations of severe heart failure and in patients with pulmonary hypertension.
Michael also undertook a fellowship in non-invasive cardiac imaging at Monash Heart in Melbourne during 2015. Here, he was trained in a broad range of cardiac imaging, including advanced echocardiographic techniques, stress echocardiography and trans-oesophageal echocardiography.
He has completed training in Cardiac CT Coronary Angiography and is registered as a Level A accredited reporter CTCA reporting with the CSANZ.
In 2016-2017, Michael completed a further cardiac imaging fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. This consisted predominantly of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and he has acquired Level 3 accreditation from the Society of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance.
